The pan in the picture above is the 69-72 396-454 Camaro Chevelle Nova style oil pan with the stair step levels to clear the subframe.

Some backyard mechanic welded on a deeper base. GM did not sell crap like that with a welded seam and sell it as a special 6 qt oil pan

The below pic shows the correct sytle pan used on BB Corvettes - This is a service replacement pan but still shows the type of oil pan used on BB Corvettes
