That is the difference between the Z16 and 66 L72 air cleaners as far as I know. The LT1 air cleaner has a groove in the base and the snorkels attach much differently.

I bought an air cleaner base and lid similar to yours about 20 years ago from someone advertising in Hemmings Motor News. It also had a black lid and black sticker. When I received it, it was in great shape... it just needed to be refinished. I had it powder coated and had the lid chromed. I still have it to this day, and never used it. Where is the groove you speak of and how are the snorkels attached? I would like to know if I have one for a 427 car.
