I think you may be off on this. See, actually it comes from a party that was held right around the Southern PA and Maryland area. The Pennsylvania people were in charge of bringing the punch along with glasses. They brought paper cups invented by John Dixinsloganhausen, a Dutch immigrant, who’s dad Richard was a well known inventor. With such a horrendous last name, John went by the nickname of “Dixson” referring to being Dick’s son. John’s most popular product was known as Dixie Cups.
![]() While at the party, somebody....possibly from New Jersey....spiked the punch. Someone realized that if those ‘Jinnians brought their jars up to drink, that means their cash was not buried in their yards anymore. ![]() ![]() ![]() Realizing that paper cups are no match against glass ones, they retreated but a clear line was drawn in the sand that day dividing the two areas; The Mason Jar and Dixie Cup Line. Over time that slanged down to the Mason Dixon Line. ![]() Oh, I’m pretty sure that’s how it all went down ![]() ![]() Cheers Dave |
