As stated, it depends on the car. The more desirable the car, the more valuable real paperwork becomes. It is however but one piece of the provenance puzzle. If the car is complete with a real drivetrain/tags, owner history then it becomes a little less important. However if its a project car then real paper becomes much more important JMHO.
