I remember the first car show I went to. I was a little young to have a car... It was the World of Wheels show in Huntsville, ALA at the VBCC. I believe it was 1985 or 1986 and one of the things that stuck out in my mind that day and still does today was the Green Yenko Nova that was sitting at the North end of the Arena... I was 13 or 14 years old and distinctly remember saying something to my dad about the odd color and the wording on the door panels... I had always associated "Deuce" with the 32 ford since that was what Cartoons Magazine and my matchbox cars labeled the 32... I have looked through all my photos and have never found a picture of that car but did find other cars from the show... I wonder whose Deuce it was ? ? ?

I do, I was 16 years old.. Don't have a photo of the show but have a picture of my old 69 Nova.. What a beast that car was.. It was rough but very fast.. I acquired the car when I was 15. My Uncle and I rebuilt a 327 for it.. It had stock heads, Blackjack headers with SONIC TURBO mufflers (remember those??) turned down at the rear axle, mild Edelbrock performer cam, stock compression 9 1/2 to 1, Edelbrock dual plane high rise intake w/Holley 600.. Turbo 350 w/B&M shift kit (that would break the tires loose from 1st to 2nd gear shift) & 411 gears.. What really made the car scoot was the power shot 125 hp nitrous kit I added in high school... The car would smoke the tires all the way thru 3rd gear... I've said it before, I'm lucky that car was not my casket for all the stupid street racing I did in that thing and how "squirrely" it got... Great teenage/high school memories though!! Went on my first date in that car also.... I parted the car out some years back but still have the motor on an engine stand in my garage...

The earliest time I remember seeing a bunch of souped up cars is when my Dad took me to Skips Fiesta on North Ave near 1st ave. in suburban Chicago in the late 60's. I will never forget it.

Sam, I've been looking for something to put the motor in.. Possibly another Nova... I thought about doing another Nova identical looking to the 69 I had.. I have the paint codes for the blue and the stripes.. The guy who painted it taped them inside the glove box on a piece of paper...

Maybe someday..... Rich

My first that I can recall was at the International Amphitheater in Chicago in 1969 or 1970. I probably have some poor quality photos somewhere. Not much of a memory of the event, my dad may have driven me there.

Steve, was that the 1970 New Car Automobile show held in February?
I knew it was always held at the Amphitheatre previously, but starting with the 1970 model year,it was meant to be held at the newly built McCormick place complex,in what's known as the east wing today. Thanks to a fire there days before, they had to move it back into the Amphitheatre again.
Here's some vintage pics from one who was there..
