Guys, is there a way to tell if a 62 Impala is a true SS? The vin starts off 21847, the car is a 327 4bbl, a/c, ps, pb, pw, buckets with a console, powerglide. Any help is appreciated................RatPack.............

That VIN (1847) is correct for all '62 V8 plain Impalas and Impala SS's. On some cowl tags, the accessory line will be stamped "SS" or "SPORT". There is a lot of SS only equipment on these cars to look for. Make sure the side trim and rear cove are the machined swirls and not plain silver. The right side of the trunk lid should also have an SS emblem that seems to be left off of a lot of clones. Oh yeah, make sure that grab bar is on the passenger side of the dash. Good luck.

Mark, thanks for the reply. Everything checks out and the car does have the all important grab bar. It is a two owner car sold new at a dealership here locally..........RatPack...........
