Ken, I found my papers from that weekend. Kimble's Car VIN # is 197055

The back-up 396 pace car has a lower VIN than Charley's. The VIN number itself does not prove or disprove anything. The cars did not necessarily come down the assembly line by order of VIN. Any of these first three L78 cars is extremely desirable regardless of which one was actually built first.
