How do you read the dates on a power steering box? I am assuming the casting has a cast date and the aluminum end piece maybe an assembly date?

I know my manual box has the casting date in 1-365 days cast into the housing (Mine is 79). A pad next to the aluminum cover has the actual assembly date (mine is B0849). I think B might stand for second shift, 084 means 84th day and 9 means 1969.
