Was the filter itself a thin foam?

Jughead,
It was a dark gray foam. The domed screens were not chromed, as in the earlier post. It looked exactly as the one in your first post, although I can not see the tabs on the band in that photo. Verne |

The foam elements would tend to ignite, with a carb backfire if you didn't change them or clean them now and again --The elements were/are pretty cheap, but I would just take it out run it under a hose and squeeze out the excess--I never had one lite up--Here's some photos of those air cleaners----Stelling and Hellings--

Wasn't it the flyeye that was notorious for immatating a candle wick in the case of a backfire?

I guess it depended what air cleaner they had on the shelf that day, although the Stelling and Helling was the earliest---Verne, I would never post your photo,I did however send copies to Team Chevelle etc.--

Yeah, by the time I stopped using it, I had my share of carb back fires, and the foam had a big hole in the middle of it.
Thanks a lot Joe Now I guess I'll have to go read the wise cracks about my shoes. (You didn't really do that did you.........????) ![]() |
