They could be following Charley with his Never Lost set-up

69 Indy 500 side note: Rain delayed Pole day on Sat the 17th. Only one car made an attempt for the pole, rookie Jigger Sirois. His team waved off the run because it was too slow, in their opinions to qualify (160-162). Rain started after his run and no others attempted to qualify. Had his team taken the run he would have won the pole!

If also rained on Sunday and thus pole day was moved to the next weekend. AJ takes the pole with a speed of 170 and change. Poor Jigger didn't make the race in 69 nor in any of his other 6 attempts. Lowest qualifying speed to make the field in 69 - 160.851.

So the 69 Indy 500 didn't actually take place on May 30th 1969 as it lists on the door decals of the pacecar? Interesting Indy 500 trivia!

[ QUOTE ]
Last picture bottom right corner. Is that guy wearing a black jacket with Camaro in orange script?

[/ QUOTE ] Yes he is...also notice the steps are wet, confirming the rain theory. I should say the pics were taken during "race weekend" or at least I assume. The person I got them from wasn't the photographer, and wasn't present at the race. Just going by what I see depicted same as you all. The attached pic is dated 5-30-69 on the back. Some sort of commotion in the pits requiring fire extinguishers.

A close up shot of the pits...dig the tar top powered thing-a-ma-jig. Is that a starter for the race cars?

A rain soaked Gasoline Alley, note the Hot Rod staffers. Anyone restoring a vintage Bolens or Wheel Horse, here's your pay dirt.

It's also probably difficult to see in the scans, but in pic 2 the middle car's Indy Pace Car decals are very noticeably crooked. Also, pic 6, the quarter has a decal that says "Festival Queen" apparently used to carry the "Festival Queen."

Crooked decals on the middle car? I thought it looked like the car was carrying some "extra baggage".
