How can I tell by looking at the trim tag on a 71 Superbee that it is a true Superbee?? Or are there other clues?
Thanks Duane

Check out the VIN decoding here. Neat info even though its Mopar info
http://www.completelycudas.com/history/vin.html Or give SuperCars a PM and ask, pretty sure he will have the info you need.

The VIN should begin WM23(engine code)1. Previous Chargers had 29 as a bodystyle, but it became 23 in 1971.
Also, the 340 was available midyear, so the available engines are H (340), N (383), V (440+6), and R (426). The 440-4 was not available on the Super Bee but apparently around 26 were built. This is coded U. Hidden headlamps were optional. So were rubber bumpers, which were not available with the former. If the latter were ordered, the car received R/T segmented taillights. Hopefully this helps! |

Duane check this guy out. He is one of the leading Mopar names out there. Galen Govier
BTW the 1969 1/2 Super Bee 440 six pack lift off hood car has got to be one of the coolest muscle cars ever made!

One nice thing about mopar trim tags is that they are complete. They tell you pretty much what the car was, or was'nt. If chevrolet had used that kind of tag, we would be able to tell the real deals from the fakes. Schonye

I'm not so sure. There's plenty of bogus Mopars out there. The tag helps, but it is not the certification Pontiac and Ford guys have.
