Pretty simple piece to make. 16ga flat steel, bead-rolled the edges and a little shrinking in the corners to get it to sit flat where it curves upward in front. Welded on a couple hinges, and made a finger-pull in the corner that is welded on also.

We'll use a couple magnets to keep it closed and avoid rattling. No latch.

Here's a picture of it just set in place. It will sit a little more level once we add a weatherstrip and the magnets.

Today, Grandpa came over to help shoot the car. It worked really well having 2 paint guns going, so we could keep from getting dry spots. It wasn't without hiccups, though. I had a user-error with my gun and got a few drips of basecoat on the trunk area that we needed to let dry and block sand before we could continue.

Cale shot a little basecoat but most of it was sprayed by Dad and myself.

That's going to be a beautiful '55. I love the color.

----Now, since I read Mrays post on his uncles gasser, I'm wondering if Cales 55 is a DelRay, Belaire, or other??? It would be absolutely cool with black and white DelRay interior with the color he chose. Paint looks bitchin!!!....Bill S

Saw the car at MCACN this past year. What a great family project. Love the progress. Great color.

Looks great, huge step over with. A little tweaking and it will be ready for assembly..
Now, get him in training to catch a prom date...
