Question 70 Nova/Grumpy's Toy...

Been wanting to do some Day 2 stuff to our 70 L78 TH400 Nova. Over the winter I connected with some guys through the site that knew the car back in the day. I was told the original owner set up the car like Grumpy's with black wall tires and Cragars. This car was sold new at Laks Chevrolet in Buffalo and was heavily street raced.

The car currently has 15x7 steel wheels on the rear and 15x6 on the front...tires are 235/70 and 225/70.

So, should I keep these tires [they are like new] Firestone Indy 500's...or swap them out...?? Will need to source the Cragar mags as well.

Car has headers, original Lakewood bars, 4.10 gear, small converter, 163 intake with 850VS Holley, 4 core radiator, flex fan, taller front springs, etc.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Also interested in any Laks Chevrolet items like plate frames, emblems, etc.

Just took it for ride...it runs strong.

Thanks, wilma

Cragar SS’s would look great on your black car. The old style round spoke ones are getting harder to come by nowadays.

Your nova looks great the way it sits, and if you're like myself, I get a bit bored with my stuff and like to change it up a bit. I'm right there with my '69 chevelle, and it's got 4 cragars on it with white letter coopers. I'm thinking 15x7 steel rear wheels and 15x6 torq thrusts (vintage) with all black walls. The mismatched look sits well with me, as it was exactly what we did to hit the track. We likely put the matched wheels back on for everyday use.

I have 15x10 and 15x5 or 6 old school cragars. Don’t know if the 15x10 would work in the rear?

Post Chrome Reverse Option...

Looks like vintage Cragars may be hard to find...and the new ones don't cut it. How about using a chrome reverse wheel in the back..?? I had one of my cars set up like that back in the day....pretty sure I had Cragars on the front.

Any thoughts on other wheel combos to 'change' the look would be appreciated.

Nova looks great and with Cragars even better. I have 15x7 Cragars on my 72 Nova SS and 14x6 on the fronts. Personally i like a little slope downward in the front which i did by cutting a coil off the front coil springs. Good luck with your project. Your Nova looks sweet. Loved Grumps 68 Nova look.

Facebook Marketplace is a treasure trove of old Cragars and they're pretty easy to find. I sold my 14x6 NOS ones with my car, otherwise those would be perfect for your Nova.
