I bought an 837 alternator for a buck back in the 90's. It was in a pile of parts, and I gave a dollar a part for the whole box. I didn't even know it was in the pile because I didn't look at the numbers and it didn't have the big pulley on it. Boy was I surprised. I don't even remember what attracted me to the box, but think it was a timing cover.
Am I limited on the amount I can get for that 837 alt? I recently bought our 19 year old a Celica. Got a smoking deal at $2500. Three weeks later he gets rear ended and the car is totaled. I am entitled to fair market value, regardless of what I paid. Ins co. paid a little over $5500. Should I have given back some of that money? Chuck got a smoking hot deal on the ebay alt. He is entitled to ask whatever he wants. The market will dictate. If someone wants this part for $500, all you have to do is camp out on ebay for the next 3 or 4 years, putting in your $500 bid until another one sells for that.
