What machine shop or engine rebuilder??? The last machine shop friend of mine moved his business out of state to Havre De Grace Maryland a few years ago and I am the engine builder. It's amazing the lack of this kind of business in my location. I have to ask here or on other sites for the info/suggestions I need. There use to be shops all over the Dover Delaware area, but nothing now. It's a real struggle to even find somebody that rebuilds starters, and alternators...

I have no idea how to do that...I've used the composite gaskets with no problems and spoke to many members on and off line and the 2 I mentioned in my post seem to be the best solution. My heads are the stock 186's-64CC's??? and I'm thinking I need to stay below what .050 quench correct??

I don't want to sound like I'm making things difficult, but assuming the heads ARE to GM specs along with the rest of it without verifying is taking a gamble. Usually things result in less than spec compression etc when assuming the parts are as GM literature indicates. I would just hate to see you leave some performance in the table.

Yeah...that's more than I can do. I have done a few engines and used the composite head gasket and never have run into issues but those engines were just the run of the mill rebuild lo-po small blocks I read about rebuilding from the Motor manuals and asking questions from the many older mechanics that use to be around. Nobody around anymore to ask those questions or to show guidance that I can find.

Those are cool, shorty traction bars with the j bolts. They don't look like they have been painted
