I believe all LS-7s were 12.5:1. I have been planning to buy a bore-o-scope with camera to take pictures of the cylinders in assembled engines. Maybe this is a good excuse to buy one. If GM lowered the compression of the LS7, I imagine they would have changed the suffix code from XCH to something else. This is a true XCH LS-7.

OK, I went and bought and inspection camera/borescope at Costco. Quite a deal I think at $150. It takes video and pictures and came with everything to operate. Fun toy!
Anyway, the piston number is 3963551 which comes up as 12.25:1, first used in the 1970 LS-7 engine. ![]() From GM Parts Direct Website: 3976014 High Performance Piston This 454 standard, pressed pin, high performance piston has a 12.25:1 compression ratio and an open dome. (ID#3963551 or 3976032). Used in engine assemply P/N 3965774. Thanks, Jason |

Thanks Bruce. I definitely have not had all the cool stuff. Once that happens I don't know what I will do. The good news is there is always more cool stuff out there. Once I think I have seen it all, something else even better pops up!
