Probably a legit RS SS 396 car, but certainly a recently made up Motion 427 replica car, with a highly suspect POP. Noticed it has a 140 mph speedo and 8K tach, neither being correct for this car. One of the captions on the FB pictures says something like "396 out 427 L-88 in". Another caption reads "orginal 396 engine" Also block casting picture is 272 which is a 396 block. Regardless of the pedigree it looks like a nice car and probably runs well with the L-88.

Thanks for the Facebook links. When we saw the car a few weeks ago I could not read the cowl tag then.

The block with casting 272 is the original 396/375hp L78. I still have the motor at our shop. The original engine that motion put in the car, I was told, threw a rod and destroyed the block. The gentleman that owned the car previously rebuilt the original 396 and installed it back in the car with a tri-power setup from a 67 corvette. The current owner wanted to switch it back the way it was and this is why we installed the L88 that is currently in the car. And yes, It runs extremely well!! Any questions, feel free to ask. I do not know the full history of the car but I did see several documents on this car being a phaseIII. Unfortunately, the current owner had the car at a restoration shop several years ago and the owner of the restoration shop got in deep with his buisness and lost everything. All the documentation was in the shop owners posession when they got shut down. The car owner never got all of his documentation back. I know this because this is unfortunately the old restoration shop I worked at.

Dont think that this is a Motion Phase lll. Maybe a RS/SS. The COPO stuff is not correct and the Trim Tag is fake. Post a Picture of engine pad showing Vin and Suffix Code. |
