I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a true original Yenko stripe kit. I recently got this on a trade deal for a L-88 short block. The Corvette shop that bought the L-88 had purchased a bunch of cars and parts out of the Otis Chandler collection and this came along with the lot of parts. It has been sitting on the shelf for decades. The postage stampes are from 1990 and the kit looks like it was around long before that. I can pull the stripes out of the tube if necessary.
Thanks, Jason |

Jason, is the yenko stripe kit for Camaro? Nova? Vega? Deuce?

I believe Camaro. Here are a few pictures. It looks like they were sent by Mick Price to Greg Joseph. The shop I bought them from was confident they were original. I just want to be sure before I sell them.

They could be, but I'd need to see the markings on the backing paper to verify. Could be early hand cut reproductions too.
Camaro/Nova/Chevelle all used that same stripe kit by the way.

I pulled them out of the tube for a few pictures. They look to have 3M backing.

Those are reproductions and definitely not from 69/70 era. Original ones had a brownish colored backing paper, and the 3M logo was different. I did a little research and the 3M logo on the back of yours was first designed in 1977 and has been used ever since. Sorry for the bad news.

The name on that address label is Greg Joseph. He was the curator of Otis's collection at the time. He was the guy that came out and bought my 71 hemicuda ragtop for Otis, back in 1987.

Thanks for the info guys. Is there anyway to know whether these decals are better or worse than those currently available?
Thanks, Jason |
