I wish Annie had been able to go and meet the owners. They were great people and it was neat to tell them the stories of Annie's father-in-law and the #1 and 2 car on New Years Eve in 1969. We hope they will be bringing the car to MCACN for the ZL1 display.

Yep! #1 & #2 side by side again in LaHarpe after nearly 43 years.
Mike & Peggy Flash from Beaumont Texas made the trip to Monmouth & LaHarpe with #2. He has owned the car for 30 years and it RARELY sees daylight. It's in amazing shape considering it retains most of its original paint. When Mike bought it, the engine was blown (not the original aluminum engine, but an iron block) and it had 'glass front fenders and a lift-off hood. He replaced the front sheetmetal and painted everything from the doors forward, also blending into the doors. He also thought #2 was the Shay Nichols car but all the pictures show lace & cobweb paint on her car. Mike says there's absolutely no indication of a repaint on this car, or of any lace/cobweb work. He knows the history of the car; he's the fourth owner. I was hoping Charley would say something about Mike & Peggy coming to MCACN so I just threw some pix out to entice everyone. BTW, they sounded very interested and it's sounding like they may make the trip to Chicago in November. (Even Barnhart didn't scare them off!) Like Rick said, they're really nice folks and everyone enjoyed the time with them. I hope they enjoyed the trip and their time in LaHarpe. Looking forward to seeing them again in November.

Very cool!! If I follow this correctly...this is number #2 but not believed to be the Shay Nichols car? I would have thought that would have been a no brainer since only two cars were delivered Dec 31...Hard to lose track that fast.
So now my question is, where and what number is the Shay Camaro? My next question is about the magazine drag test that was done with the "number one" car after delivery...Are we sure that was #1 now not #2?? Fred G. said that #1 was turned around in 3 weeks and ready to race..I know it was cold that day( at the track) but not -22 (?) like it was Dec 30th in LaHarpe. I'm thinking it could have been #2 now while #1 was prepped to race...? Just a question that comes to mind, not tring to start a debate.. I'm interested in learning more!! Steve Steve |

Concur - "very cool!!!" Hope they bring it to MCACN this fall. Cool that they have both the body & chassis sheets! Is this unusual to find in the aluminum Camaros?
That is history in those pix. Thanks DC! [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/ ![]()
