My L78 is an 01C car and has that same early rear view mirror mount. It sucks for trying to hold the mirror in place, but that looks correct. I ended up mounting a 69 style mirror from the ceiling for safety reasons and it didn't hurt the headliner at all so I'm happy for now. The stock 2 piece mount will start to banana over time and won't hold in place. The early 70 cars had that mount before they changed to the later style that lasted through most of the 2nd gens. I would leave that mount alone for now.

I would rather not replace the mirror since it was missing when sold new. Just kinda cool history.
