the only way those jap import cars run is with a baby bottle in the back seat,(laughing gas)ahahahahaha.otherwise they are just little boys cars. put a ZL1 or just a 396 on a bottle then see what it would do to those little piecies of junk.they got their asses kicked at muscle car vs.import car day at raceway park in englishtown last year.
so the magazines can say all they want but in the end its all sour grapes!!! Ron C 69rsz 02 35th ss perf edition #11 71 ss 454 chevelle

I was talking cars with a guy at work and he claimed he did a 150mph in his 2000 Acura TL (I have not idea if this thing could actually top out at 150). When I started questioning his claim the response was: I was going slightly downhill! After that retort I decided not to talk cars with this guy anymore.

[ QUOTE ]
The magazine tested all the cars in the movie except the HEMI Challenger. This is how it went: '99 Skyline 14.1--'02 Mitsubishi Evo 15.3--'93 Mazda RX-7 14.6--'00 Honda S2000 13.9--'93 Supra Turbo 14.5 and Guess Who WON??---'69 YENKO CAMARO 13.7 at 106.9 mph [/ QUOTE ] Well, they can talk all they want about the Camaro being "prehistoric", but the time slips tell the real story... |

Well, I did some digging online this morning, and looky what I found:
2 Fast 2 Furious: 1969 Yenko Camaro - The torque of the day Get this: they griped about the Camaro's poor brakes, yet it was within 11 feet of the Skyline, 13 feet of the Evo, and OUTBRAKED the S2000! How much lighter are the other cars, and tell me again how "prehistoric" and "scary" the brakes are if it's stopping close to, and better than some, of the newer cars? Doesn't say much for the new cars! So, it out accelerated ALL of the other cars, outbraked 2 of them (the Supra didn't even make it through the test), and said it was a "blast to drive" and a "great looking car"...so, do they not read their OWN test results? Or, did they have their minds already made up BEFORE the test results... |

The reporter needs to remember that the Yenko Camaro is 34 years old. Of course electronic fuel injection is better then the Holley, a 6 speed is better then a 4 sp, and brakes and suspension have improved in the last 30 yrs.
He did admit it was fun to drive. I bet they needed to use thier Samurai sword to cut the smile off his face after smoking the rear tires with the 427 screaming. |

Remember the name of the magazine guys. He HAS TO be negative about the old car, or, his readers will be P.O'd They're the ones who buy the magazine. I'd be curious to know which car he would like to have for a whole day just for fun.

First of all he'd probably have to drive off the top of the EMPIRE STATE BUILDING with HIS car and with the help of gravity he might make 150mph, but even at that, the HAMSTER that powers those things, would probably die of a heart-attack!!!

Call me crazy, but I didn't think the linked article was that bad. It gave reasoable credit to the cloned Yenko's strong points. The article did have some less sublte promotions to the advertizers products. Sounds like there were advertizes for brakes, suspention, steering wheels and the sort. Demographic target marketing, right?
I try and stay pretty open minded with all types of cars and bikes. The fact is, smaller engines can do more these days. My daily driver- Toyota truck has a supercharger on it, which really helps to flatten out it's torque curve. Heck my wife's old Q45 that I was asked to comment about last week wouldn't even shift into 4th gear until 140 MPH when the hammer was down. I personally know this because I outran a late 90's TA on a dead flat streach of road last year. The Q45 speedo only goes to 160 and I shut it down at 155. I should have stayed in it just so I could say it pinned the needle. All in all, the Q45 is more like a domestic since it is a V8 RWD car, so please go lightly on the flames. Paul T |

Fair enough. But there was a time when muscle cars were the main game in town and they pretty much shaped the performance scene at the time. Just because some time has gone by it would be a good thing to have a little more respect for yesterdays TECHNOLOGY ,that made today's TECHNOLOGY possible.Criticism is O.K., but tasteful criticism is better.
