1970 aluminum slotted wheel questions

Thanks Ray I am guessing you had one of those great LS6s in the chevelle row: Did you see it at MCACN.

The rims were made in Van Nuys. I wonder if Rug went to the factory to pick them up. The days of buy American (actually Appliance). The cool thing about this thread is that I have completed more research on making my w-30 one of the most correct restorations possible. So I now know what rims Rug the original owner bought for the car.

During the restoration, the classic oldsmobile site saved me making a mistake on the replacement of my aluminum w-27 rear end cover. Mine had a fin ground off and the restoration shop thought it was junk. Turned out one of the experts on the w-27 rear end found a technical bulletin for California only emission vehicles. So 49 states did not have the fin ground off. California cars in 1970 w-30s had a different gas tank, extra fuel line and emission canister. Saved the cover and was able to document the ground off fin.

Lee - fine Olds you have there. Have you looked at AKH yet? He is expensive but comes up with some rare and desireable stuff. Good luck.

When I was on the xt wheel search I tried him. Try to find five date coded xt wheels anywhere. Was too bad the olds shared those with the copo cars. Nobody ever advertised them as olds wheels.

I looked on the site and he did not have what I needed. I may have to settle for period correct instead of Appliance. Rug the original owner died a few years ago and wouldn't mind if the brand was off but the car had the same look.

If you are not in a hurry I am confident you can track down what you want. Anyway to verify with original owner/family that Appliance is what you are looking for?

I cannot contact the family and Rug the original owner is deceased. I am going to have to say whitetop has presented strong evidence they were Appliance. I will be going out to a wheel shop next week and attending the pomona swap meet in search of a nice set of wheels. My only goal now is to make sure I qualify for a day two by getting the correct era vintage wheels.

I believe this to be correct as well. I have a set of NOS Ansen Sprints and they are <span style="text-decoration: underline">not</span> polished. When I bought them they were in the original boxes but when the man shipped them to me he cut the boxes up and used original boxes as packing material. I will never understand why people do some of the things they do. here is one of the wheels. I stuck them all in extra boxes I had. This one just needs a good wipe down and its ready to go!
