Guys , I just finished reading a back issue of Aces, Jan/Feb 2007 and saw an article on pg 20 about Mike Moore's Shadow Grey LS6 .Now although the car has been re-painted in 1985, apparently the car had only 16,000 orig miles when purchased , all original except for a Hurst shifter and Crager Wheels. What was interesting though was the discussion with regard to the D88 stripes and the Malibu emblem on the door panels rather than the SS emblems. Now the emblem part I had heard before, but the D88 stripes is totally new, and I want to run it by you guys to see if you have seen this before. Apparently, there are 2 different styles of D88 stripes, radial corners and straight corners

As has been discussed many times before,I think the 454 cars receiving Malibu vs. SS door emblems is a seperate issue altogether unrelated to the stripes.
Arlington was a new plant designation for the 1970 chevelle beginning in January 1970.There were two different stripe designs, and Arlington seemed to adhere to the squared corners design mostly. Many SS cars,be it 396 or 454 assembled there have been found with them, regardless of what time of year they were built. So far I know of 3 January,2 March, and 4 June that received them. |

Here are pics of the stripes on an original paint Leeds Built (12C) LS5. The first pic may look like they were added later, but the owner assured me these were all original.

This photo is of a 23,000 mile unrestored and as found/where found LS-6 from the Baltimore plant. Notice it has the "SS" door emblems which is what I most commonly find from that plant. Also notice the rose primer under the very thin paint in the door jambs.
![]() This photo is of a restored 18,000 mile LS-6 from the Leeds plant and it has the "Malibu" emblems on it's original door panels. Again, this is what I most commonly find from this plant. ![]()
