Anyone tried to restore original fuel / speedo lens on a 69 Camaro. My originals are in very good condition with the exception of a few places were the chrome edges are worn or scratched off. Anyway to refinish this or do I go repro? Any chrome paint product recommendations if so? Also, any recommended plastic polish for the lens itself? Meguiars Plastic X work? Thanks

I've tried a repop speedo lens for a 69 Chevelle and it was awful. The plastic was wavey and there was no hole for the clock set knob and shaft. The original lens was repolished with some 2500 grit sandpaper and soapy water; and an over the counter plastic polish. It turned out as good as new.

The plastX works very good. It will easily polish out 1500 scracthes if you want to save time and sand it first.

I used Nova on my plastic parts which comes wiht 3 different polishes. Based on the starting condition, you work up to the finest, which is almost like water.
As for the chrome, if it's not too bad, I'd leave it alone...maybe touch it up with a chrome or pewter paint stick. If it's bad, then you might need to redo it. There's a guy in Columbus who did a nice job on the chrome on my dash housing and instrument lenses. He was sick, but I recently heard he was back to doing them. |

Novus, not Nova.
I think Nova is some kind of Chevy available in Gobi Beige, as well as some other colors. ![]() |
