Default heres my "one that got away"

back in 1974 i lived in the north end of columbus ohio, me and a couple buddies shared a 3 bedroom apartment. it was close to christmas time and on morse road there was an old house that set up near the road. one day there was a black with white yenko stripe 69 chevelle setting right next to the house with a small for sale sign in the window. i stopped and checked it out, it looked mostly original and clean. asking $3000, looking futher i seen it was a automatic, bummer. at the time i had a 69 Z/28 and a 66 SS chevy II L/79. i wanted a 4 speed so i thought i would wait and someday i would find one. "somedays never come" the car was gone in a few short days and i have never seen it locally again. snooze ya loose. dennis

-----If we are talking about "ones that got away, I got one for you.
-----1969 I was going thru the Boston paper classifieds and a 1964 Cobra popped up. Called the guy and left for the hour and a half trip to see it. Got there and the car had a very bad red paint job. Along with that every electrical wire in the car was the same color,,,red. Well,,,that put me offf and I left without buying it for,,,,,,,,The princely sum of,,,,,,Are you ready,,,$1200.00. Oh...body was pretty nice under the spray-bomb paint..........Bill S

It was the winter of '76 and I had a sweet little 1959 model green-eyed blonde on my hands.....

Seriously though and aside from my own cars I wish I still had, I always think back to when I worked at the boneyard in the late 70's/early 80's when all the best stuff was rolling through.. Aside from the daily routine of stripping parts and fixing cars, every six months or so the press would come in and you'd have to make decisions on what could stay and what got flattened. ..

I shoved fork-loads of Camaros, Chevelles, Novas', Road-Runners...you name it into the squeezer and with the ones I really knew I'd regret someday, I'd back away from the press and often watch as they'd crumple with their glass breaking and chrome popping off...all somehow beautifully glistening in the sunlight...

Included in the ones I just can't forget was a '69 Judge Coupe...blue w/ a slight front corner hit, a sweet little white '63 Nova SS ragtop (one year only)...lots more. ..

June 1974. I was 16 and was out for a drive. As I did from time to time, I stopped by Twin Pine Auto Sales in Ephrata, PA to check out their current offering as they were known for their selection of muscle cars at the time. As I pulled onto the lot, I was stopped dead in my tracks by the sight of a 1969 Shelby GT500 convertible sitting front and center near the showroom. I remember that car like it was yesterday . Gulfstream aqua, gold stripes, white interior, white convertible top. 428, four speed. Absolutely pristine condition and stunning as it sat in the bright sunshine. One problem . . . to the tune of $4,500. Sounds like a pittance now but at the time $4,500 was all the money in the world. I worked part time after school making $1.85 and hour. It sure made an impression on me. It was a real joy just to see it!
Thinking of that day long ago reminds me of how much enjoyment you can get just from being around great muscle cars, even if you don't own one.
