Default SCR Drag racing do's and don'ts

OK, new to the drag racing stuff. Someone a while ago posted about items needed to race at the reunion. Is there a "required" tech list to race..other than a helmet and a car . I'm starting to gather my stuff and finish prepping the car..I can't wait!.. I'm like Flounder from Animal House " Oh Boy is this great"!!!!
Thanks
ALbert

Over flow tank, long pants, helmet, 2 return springs on your carb. The rest is mainly common sense stuff like making sure you have all the lug nuts and they are tight, no big fluid leaks etc..... You can use your windshield washer bottle for the overflow tank by just running a hose from the radiator to it.

Looks like everyone hit the high points...
[*]13.99 and quicker means a helmet is *required*, but we encourage EVERYONE who makes a pass to wear one...cheap insurance if you ask me...
[*]No shorts, gotta have pants...ask Dave H about getting tossed for that...sweat pants is an easy fix, just don't expect any cat calls from the gallery...
[*]No open toed shoes...this means no sandles...cowboy boots or velcro shoes are optional...
[*]Shirts with sleeves are required...no tank tops, cut off shirts, half shirts, or whatever...short sleeves are fine, a light shirt with long sleeves so we can easily see 'em in the lanes is better (I get tossed over my sleeveless shirt at least once a season!)...
[*]Seat belts...that's a no brainer.
[*]Overflow tank...we would really like to see everyone with an overflow tank, but if you're just gonna make a few easy passes then we can probably let it go a couple times...but for you hot-lappers out there, it would be nice to see a catch-can of some kind...as Clill said above, I simply run a piece of hose from the rad overflow to my washer bottle...also, we've used cans/bottles and such in a pinch...it doesn't have to be permanent, that way you can take it off for the eye candy folks on Saturday...
[*]2, count 'em "2", return springs...just stop by an auto parts store and grab a cheap throttle return spring and put it over the original...I've seen what happens when this goes awry, and a spring is an easy on/off safety net...
[*]Common sense stuff...lugnuts tight, brakes working, not puking fluid out, no fuel leaks...it's gonna be your butt driving the thing, but don't get stupid by getting lazy...
[*] Like someone said above, go *around* the water box, then back up and do a dry burnout...unless you're one of the more serious guys with some tire under the car, then the water is just gonna make getting the car off the line a chore...
[*]Do me a favor, and take it easy on the "go pedal" in the pits...seems like each year I take a butt chewing from the track folks about someone doing burnouts or hot rodding through the pits...if you're gonna play, play on the track...
[*]You'll also need to fill out a brief tech card...I'll be handing these out, but everyone will need to fill one out...if I don't find you, then FIND ME...look by the BIG black trailer...also, we're gonna be looking at doing an informal, and more importantly laid back, bracket race...it's not gonna filled with ringers, so don't worry if it's new to ya...but in a bracket race *everyone* has a chance to win, regardless of whether it's an 11 second ride or a 16 second ride...we'll walk everyone through it, but it will be later in the day...

Now, with all that said, DO NOT LET ANY OF THE ABOVE DISCOURAGE YOU FROM RACING! If you forget something, or have a question, or have never been on/around a track before, PLEASE ASK! Probably just about any shmoe walking by that day would be more than happy to lend a hand, or will at least know where to find someone that will! You won't be alone, as a day at the track isn't second nature to everyone...there's always someone who needs to borrow a helmet, or a spring, or some tools, or whatever...no big deal, just ask! Most importantly, come to HAVE FUN, and things will work themselves out...
