Default Under-cowl paint color?

Does anyone have an original paint 69 Hugger Orange non-Z28 Camaro?

I need to know if the area under the cowl panel (i.e. the area where the wiper transmission linkage is located) should be blacked out.

JohnZ states the area is supposed to be blacked out but I've heard from one owner of an original paint L78 (hotrodpaul here on yenko.net) that his is body-colored.

My car is Norwood 02D-built with white SS stripes if that makes any difference.

If you could somehow send a smoke signal to get in touch with Ken Barnhart...

Denis does it have to be Hugger Orange?

I honestly don't recall seeing a non-Z with that area blacked out....

Bud:

Good suggestion. Dana, you have a PM!

Darren:

I'm not sure if the blackout was done or not. Since it may have varied with assembly plant and/or car color, I'd prefer to compare with another original paint orange car. HotrodPaul's car is blue but doesn't have the blackout.

The top of the cowl should be orange. The orange fogs over the top edge of the firewall, overspraying the black firewall paint on Norwood cars, and has a taped edge on LA cars.

I'm talking about the color under the cowl panel, through the plenum openings where the wiper transmission is visible. On this original paint car, the area is clearly body colored with the wiper transmission black:

Yet I'm told that the factory assembly procedure included "black out" in the plenum area so that the wiper assembly wouldn't stand out so much. So I'm trying to find examples of cars to support this claim -- obviously the car pictured above doesn't, so maybe it's hit-and-miss or maybe it depends on assembly date or assembly line, or exterior color, or maybe it was just never done.
