I'm ready to upgrade to a 5 or 6 speed trans and I don't want to have to do alot of mods especially cut up my floor. I'm currently running a M21 w/12 bolt & 4:10s but now my motor is pushing 600+ lbs of torque at 5500 Rs. Anyone have a recommendation?
Please and thank you. ![]()

I like Jerico's. You can get them in 4 or 5 speed. They are the strongest. You can get them with syncros also. Jerico Transmissions-(704)782-4343. Also try Eric Swarr at (610)489-4029. He deals in Tremec and is a nice guy. Sam

Open your wallet though for a Jerico, $$$$! One of the guys on 'The Brew Crew' runs one in an L78, in B/S - loves it, but I think it cost around $5-6k.

I've seen four or five articles about this exact swap in Hot Rod/Car Craft/Chevy Hi-Performance/Super Chevy, etc. in the last 2 years. There are bolt in kits for this swap with a Tremec that can handle the torque. Suggest you go to the Camaros.net site and do a search as it has been discussed there numerous times.

I was thinking the Tremec also but his torque numbers are up there pretty good and I thought the Tremec 5 and 6 speeds were rated below 600 lb/ft. I was thinking the Richmond 5 speed is pretty strong but I don't think that is an overdrive trans if that is what you're looking for.

Richmond 5 speed is not OD in 5th, but the standard first gear is something like 3:28, so you can swap a 3:08 ring and pinion in and still have a lower overall ratio in first gear. In fact, something in the neighborhood of a 2:75 gear would make it comparable in first to your current set up. Less than two grand for a brand new unit. Another couple hundred for the final drive gears.
If you want over drive, the Richmond 6 speed is .76 in 6th. Same standard 3:28 first gear. About a grand more than the 5 speed. Just a thought. Lynn |

I think I want an OD trans. The Tremec 600 sounds more of what I'm looking for and as long as it's around$2500 I think I could swing it.
Thanks Jeff. ![]()
