A fine example of what disappoints me with this hobby. Oh well. Still a neat car. Would be nice to see it in the hands of someone who will appreciate it for what it is and not for how much it is worth.

That sucks. I noticed the HI tags in the trunk. Get the Plate number and the VIN and check with the HI DMV if theres any back taxes on the car due. Reason is if the car has not been on the road for so long it should have had the plates kept current or placed in storage. If they did place them in storage and failed to renew them every year, the fines add up and up and up. Friend of mine just paid just a bit over $1200 for his cars back taxes for the last 5 years.

Not sure if Hawaii could do anything if bought outside of the state but it might be worth a phone call to find out

On the Big Island $220 is the max fine. Once the car leaves the state the taxes are null.

Let me tell you. I love the system in Hawaii county. They print the title out right in front of you, no waiting for the title in the mail! Here in CA there are alot of hoops to jump through and long waits. I understand why but instant gratification is very nice.
