Anyone know if there were different front springs used on 68-70 Novas with the L89 option versus a L34 car...
Thanks Ken (my L34 car just grew up) ![]()

There are no known L89 Novas, would probably take a L78 spring I would imagine. SULLY

Funny you bring this up,as I was researching this subject this week.
I found it depended on a compilation of the weight of options ordered. For 1969 & 1970 L-34 & L-78 Novas with Std.Suspension. They used Ft. Coil spring: *3955720-YF if 0-50lbs. *3925814-EY if 51-132lbs. *3955721-YH if 133-214lbs. *3955722-YM if 215-296lbs. *3955723-YP if over 296lbs. If HD Suspension ordered. They used Frt. Coil Spring: *3955727-HH if 0-294lbs. *3955728-HJ if over 294lbs. |

Budnate, if the guy you are referencing has the POP and addl papework to back it up, he's a very lucky guy , because he will have the only "verified" L89 Nova anybody as ever seen, supposedly production figures say approx 300+- were built, but nobody has brought forth an original and questions persist as to weather or not Chevy "allowed" these to be built. Hope it's true, The Nova world would love more info.!
In regards to the springs, I have the orignal front spring tags off my 70 L78 Nova and they are 3955727, which would make sense because it has the heavy duty suspension in it (F41, rear sway bar etc) SULLY

The spring option is listed as computer selected, ie: the weight of the options was put into a "computer" and it selected the best spring from a pre-determined list of availables. The deuces are the same way, with F41 package, etc... we were surprised when we found a car with it's spring tags!

Where is the part # stamped on the spring?? Would love to see the docs on an original L89 Nova. I feel though that in 36 years one would have surfaced by now if they existed.

I've never seen a part# stamped into a coil spring.
Just a paper suffix tongue tag,or a wrap around paper tag with a number on it. |

All, I am new to this site but thought that someone here might be able to help me.
I am trying to clone the Yenko Duece stance on my 71 nova. I like the classic Yenko stance that is squatted in the rear and raised slightly in the front. I believe I have all the components except for a question on the front springs. It is my understanding that all the F41 suspension utilized the Heavy Duty Suspension springs GM 3955727 Code HH (base), or HJ (295 and over extra pounds); Spring Rate 400 Pounds per Inch. I am not sure which spring is the right one. Also does anyone know where you can buy these? Thank you for any assistance you can give! |
