1970 Charger R/T Questions

My partner and I, recently aquired a 1970 440 R/T 4sp. car. The car has a 750 Holley carb which I assume is incorrect (E86 code engine), but yesterday at a car show I saw a 1970 "383" Road Runner - 4sp. car, which had a 650 Holley, that the owner was sure is correct. I'm not a Mopar expert, but I believe both cars came with Carter AVS carbs. Another question I have is our Charger has power drum brakes and the code B51 on the trim tag, which according to info I have equates to power assist disc brakes. One last thing, this car has hood pins which I also do not think it came with, but I noticed the Banna Yellow Hemi Charger in Musclecar Enthusist had hood pins.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You're close - Germantown, but it sounds like you are familiar with the car.

Comparing a 383 to a 440 is like comparing a 396/325 to a 427/425. Different motors, different intakes, different carbs. Some 383's used a Holley. The 440's used a Carter AFB. Hood pins (code J45) were an option on the 70 Chargers. If the car had PDB it would be coded B41 for disc and B51 for power assist on the broadcast sheet but not necessarily on the fender tag (My car has "B51" listed on the tag but it is a Super Track Pac car which included the B41 Disc brakes with the 4.10 gears). Either way, power
4-wheel drums sounds fishy to me. Should be manual drums or power front disc with rear drums. If it is an original 4 speed car it should also have a Dana rear. If you PM or email me the fender tag or broadcast sheet I can be tell you what the car is/was/should be. -NJSteve

In my recent travels, I have seen several H.P Mopars of this era with manual or power disc brakes, but none with power drum. I am fairly certain that this car is all original except for the carb. Yes it does have the Dana 60 rear, as you will detect on the fender tag. I do have the broadcast sheet and I will enter the fender tag data here.

I need to see line #6 on your broadcast sheet to answer the disc brake question. The A34 Super Track Pak included the power disc with the 4.10 Dana rear. The A33 Track Pak with 3.54 Dana rear may have had the same power disc option included in it. Give me more data and I can give you more answers. Hope this helps, NJSteve

The correct carb for that R/T is a carter Avs 750 cfm
I never seen one from the factory with a holley
only on the six packs

You're right about the AVS. I had a dislexia attack and called it an AFB (Hemi on the brain) -NJSteve

Line 6 on the broadcast sheet has a #73 under the first column A(Combo Groups) but nothing listed under the two B- Brakes columns. I also see a #16 in the carb column. The wheels column has a # 16 also. Would this be the Magnum 500's? They are currently on the car. I also see in column 4 a #22 listed under front brake, 013 under the axle column, also on line 4. Trans = 637, Pin = 27, P/Shaft = 792.

A73 is Special value package, 16 for the wheels is standard 14x6 painted with dog dish hubcaps,63 is the code for the magnum wheels, the codes for the rear for a dana car 084 4:10, 079 3:54, 29 is for power disc brakes, carb numbers for a 6-pack 47, hemi 00.
