Anyone know exactly how to differentiate between these two?
The "sportsroof" (in the vin) references a Mach1, but ive heard that the plain fastback shares that roof title... Were there any plain 69 fastback 3514V mustangs made? Thanks |

i thought if it was a fastback it was considered a "mach" car.

The Sportsroof will have an "02" as the 3rd and 4th digits in the VIN while the MACH will have an "05".
All MACH's are Sportsroofs but not all Sportroofs are MACH's. |

Not quite.
The fastback was one of 3 available bodystyles for the Mustang. They marketed it as the SportsRoof. The Mach I was only available as a SportsRoof. The GT was available on any bodystyle. There is no "standard" bodystyle. All engines save the Boss engines were available on all bodystyles. Smart people ordered the 428CJ in the coupe, but they probably only made around 50 of them. Non-Mach I fastbacks with the CJ are also extremely rare, and if you're gonna encroach into Ford territory, I'd suggest checking out these sleepers. |

One of my old drinking buddies here in town still drives his med blue sportroof v-8 3 speed Mustang every day. Bought it new. doubt you could pry him out of it. He will be buried in the dam thing I suppose.

Hi!
In 1969 the Mach1 is identifiable by the door tag if you seen: Body:63C and color code need two digit ex: C5 Ray |

Hmmm.. I'm obviously looking at a 69 that is advertised as a Mach 1. It sure looks like a Mach 1 and all the stickers are correct, but I just wanted to be sure...
The VIN # is 9t02m196707. The car is in very good shape and wouldnt take much to make it exactly how I'd want it... Its asking price is $13k.... Thats about $1000 more than I could get that 71 Z28 for, but I kinda like the Mach 1's better. We dont see as many of them around here.. What one do you all think is or was faster (stock)? a 71 Z28 (auto) or a 69 Mach 1 w/351 4V and a 4spd? Ive never witnessed a 351 Mach 1 in action.... |

I think the '71 Z is faster.
I was thinking 1970 when it came to the rarity of coupes - my bad! They made 70 in 1970. Stats can be seen here. Grandes are especially rare. |
