Default Street Racing and its outcome

Just wanted to touch base with all dealing with Street Racing. Did we do it when we were young, I would say most or at least a high % of us did our share of street racing. This morning here in paradise, the day stayed dark for a couple of familes. At about 3:30 AM a Road Crew that was out checking and laying cones for the ZIP Lane (a lane that is moved to allow an extra rush hour lane going into Honolulu) the flat bed truck that a driver and passenger were in got rearended at approx 100 MPH with that car getting impacted by a second car of which were both said to have been drag racing with each other prior to the accident. Within seconds of the 1st impact the car and truck burstinto flames. Truck driver crawled out his window and tried to get his passenger out but could not due to the heat and the flames. Passenger died. First cars driver and passenger died on impact and flames. A person in the 2nd car also died.

Cars were both imports and I know what some are thinking young kids, got news for you the drivers were not young kids they were in the mid 20's and one driver was part of the US Army here in Hawaii.

Folks all I can say is if you or any friends have young kids that drive and are into the road race game remind them that the drag strips usually have a street night and please take use of them.

Jeff
That is so Sad & Senseless.
On Friday April 13,1989 at 10:00 PM I was driving home from work on a two lane rural road, when a Drunk driver decided to Street race his buddy on the way home from a bar.The 33 year old man jumped into my North bound lane,as he was going South bound.I didn't even see him as I approached a Blind curve, with nothing but headlites in my eyes.We hit Head On at 55MPh.I in my IROC,he in his new Grand Prix.My car acted like a Ramp and made his car go airborn.I stayed concious through the whole thing, and will never forget that night as long as I live. The sight, sounds, and smells.
Once I was able to free myself from my Car,I hobbled over to see if he was OK.When I saw his head missing,I new he wasn't.I went in Shock soon afterwards.
The County Coroner visited me in my Hospital room that night, and told me I was one of the Luckiest people in the world that evening.Had it not been for my Seatbelt, and the Grace of God,I would have been airborn immediatley, and landed on the Pavement head first behind my T-Tops.
I have been an advocate against Street racing ever since.
Both hands on the wheel......
Rick

I'm probably one of the few thats been through an accident where having a seatbelt on would have killed me, and not having it on saved my life.... But these days I feel naked in my vehicle if my seatbelt isn't buckled.
