What is a fair price for a 2000 Camaro SS? 12,600 miles. Red on Black w/ T-Tops, manual trans. The car has minor engine mods, with a few exterior mods too (blacked out rear sill, 1969 SS emblems). The biggest modifications are new TT 2's and GMMG chamber exhaust with the optional oval tips (retail $950). The seller is asking around $20,000. Good/Bad/Fair price?

Try LS1.com, that site is dedicated to newer LS1 powered Camaros, Firebirds, and Corvettes.

Sounds a little high. I found a 2000 SS last year with 45K miles for $13,900.

www.edmunds.com provides used car pricing... They say a 2000 SS has a trade in value of $13K, a privite party price of $15K and a dealer retail of $17K. That's a real SS in outstanding condition.
Is this car a real SS? It should have an SLP sticker under the hood and on the edge of each door. There is no collector value at this time, this car should sell just like any other 4 yr old car with low mileage. I own a '96 SS and would love to think the market would see these cars as something special but right now they really don't. You can also compare prices on www.traderonline.com |

Actually the car is on www.ls1.com. I have an e-mail into the seller and will keep you guys posted. The Camaro does have a SLP decal on the plastic cover over the radiator. Does this constitute a true SS? Another question to ask.

Dan - I found the ad on the car and that is the air box lid that says SLP on it. I think the cars a legit SS the stickers I was refering to list the slp options included from the factory. Good Luck with the deal, I think $16K-$16.5K would be a good price, the seller may tell you he's insulted... Suggest he take it to a dealer and see what he'd get on trade for it. He may come back a bit humbled and more willing to deal. I think it's a buyers market for 4th gens but current owners are slow to accept that. If you search ebay http://pages.ebay.com/ebaymotors/sea...rch_other.html
you'll find there's a bunch of '00 -'02 cars at $18K or more with no bids on them... |

Thanks for the help. I was actually quite surpised when I found this car. The only modifcation I was planning to make to the car was adding on a GMMG Chamber Exhaust system. This car already has one. The wheels and tires are nice too. I will milk the guy a little bit. I NEED to sell the '70 first.

The best way to identify a real SS is by the GM RPO label on the inside of the drivers door by the latch. On 1996 and 1997 SS's, the RPO code is R7T, which is really a process code for the ship through process. SLP owned the parts and pieces and the program was pretty much theirs.
In 1998, the SS package became a GM option, no more SLP's program or parts. The new GM option code was changed to WU8. The SLP optioned cars will also have a Y2Y code next to the WU8. That code was something GM wanted to add to any SLP optioned cars so they could track how many cars came with the SLP options internally. The problem in 1998 and 1999 was if the dealer didn't order their SS with the Y2Y code then Chevrolet would NOT allow them or SLP to add any options while at SLPs plant. We as reps told dealers to add the Y2Y to every order so they could add the options from SLP before it was built by SLP. But, many dealers added the Y2Y and never ordered any options, so the Y2Y can be confusing. Look in the passenger side door for a SLP decal with the SLP options printed on it. That SLP decal was the only SLP sticker on the cars from 1998 to 2002, unless I think you got the Synthetic Oil option and then you got a SLP Quaker State sticker under the hood. We also added many SLP options at the dealer level where we would send them parts and the dealer would install the SLP options that the car didn't come with from the Factory after SLP built it. Hope this helps . . .
