The looks nice but I would ask them if the heater delete is original. Also the car has a 140 speedo so shouldn't it have 15x7 rally wheels to go along with the 9737?

Joe,
I don't know these cars as well as guys like you, Brian, Rob, Pete, et.al. do, but there were a few things that struck me as odd about this car. You touched on two Joe... A defroster was absolutely mandatory on U.S. delivered cars from 1968 on so are we to gather that this is an export car (was a heater delete even available in 1969?). Heck, even L-88 Corvettes got them and they were mandatory heater delete cars before 1968. The 140mph speedometer seemed strange too. Like you, I was always under the impression that in order to get this on a '69 427 Camaro, you had to order 9737. Are we correct, or was there some other way to get this. The exhaust struck me as odd too. This is a very late car and chambered exhaust had long since been discontinued by this point. I wouldn't think a whole lot of it (it's a popular addition - even in cases where it might be less than correct from a restoration standpoint), but the impression that is being given is that this is a VERY correct car. Makes you wonder... I like the Burnished brown though... Looks killer! Regards, Stan Falenski [Edited by Rowdy Rat (12-13-2001 at 08:22 AM).] |

On the subject of heater deletes. How do you explain the fact that there are 69 Heater delete cars in Hawaii ?

The NC-8 chambered exhaust was not discontinued. I have seen it on late 1969 Chevelle build sheets. It was discontinued as the standard exhaust system for the L78 but was still available as optional equipment "where system is permissible". I believe this was also true for L78 and Z/28 Camaros.
Is there any real evidence of a 69 Heater delete car in Hawaii? |

I had this discussion with Jim Mattison at the Camaro Nats a few years ago. If memory serves me correct, he said that in 1969, all cars had heaters, because of a federeal mandate for defrosters. In addition, I believe he said that this was for cars sold in the continental US.
