Default What a Shame

1966 GTO rear ended.

A friend of mine back in the early 90’s was stopped at a red light when some idiot plowed into him.
My friend was fine, but the car was totaled.
He parted out the car.

He was the Original owner btw.

Somebody would have fixed that today. People are restoring stuff today that we would have never considered back then.

But it takes a nice parts car to get nice parts.
We’ve seen rusty junk cars parted out. One car get sacrificed to help many. Sad but true.

Sad to see, does your friend still think he is OK from this years later ? That is a severe whiplash and lifetime of neck and back pain right there.
As for repairing, yes it would be, but that frame is badly folded and would still be replaced, rather than repaired, even today.

Haven’t seen or heard from him in decades.

We just happened to encounter at an auto parts store parking lot because we both showed up in ‘66 GTO’s around ‘92-‘93 timeframe and exchanged phone numbers.

The guy was very reserved until the call came that his car had been wrecked.
So I get his address and drive over to see the damage. I was crushed as this guy took good care of that car.
We agreed that I’d buy the Rally Wheels, hood, grills etc. and interior items.

Then he showed me a BIG surprise. His other toy.
He lived in a neighborhood in Hayward, Ca. with well kept, but very small homes and his house had a tiny attached single garage.
Inside that garage was a Silver on Dark Blue ‘63 Split Window. He was an Oakland Raider fan and obviously liked Silver.
Wish I had my smartphone then ;-)

Needless to say ….. that day has stuck with me ever since.
That was the last time we saw each other.

My dad's body shop was in our backyard and when my brother and I were kids our dad would hook a heavy chain to a big oak tree and the rear of a car that had been hit in the rear and we would drive the car forward to pull the rear end back out. My brother said on several occasions he thought that's why he had neck issues when he was older.
