Default The streak continues. 67 L79 Corvette Coupe

I gave a teaser about this car already. I bought this particular 67 from Tim G about 60 days ago. Tim and I had already talked about this car previously, but he had no real intentions to sell. All of a sudden on a Sunday afternoon in August, I got the call from Tim as had bought another 67 (which he has already shared) and this one was for sale. Thankfully, I was on the top of Tim's call list and the deal was made.

California delivered L79 4 speed coupe. Born with drivetrain with an unhit body. Great docs, original leather interior (except carpets),and a beautiful frame.

I'll fill in the details and what I have been doing since it came in a bit later when I have some more time.

Yeah, but you HAD her first...
As said, another beautiful car, Tim. You keep getting these cars with that gorgeous Blue interior. Gotta be the best color inside those cars I've seen.

The first item in order, I felt I could get the car to run better. While it ran good, the engine seemed nervous. I did some testing of the A.I.R. components, and found one of the check valves and the mixture control solenoid were not quite up to snuff. Added to that, these cars always respond well to a fresh set of wires.

Bill Hodel was awesome to deal with not only for parts, but also for technical information.

Tim had Phil redo the carb when he bought the car a couple of years ago. Tim bought the car out of a long term slumber, so he had a punch list on the car. In addition to the carb, he had Fred Ballard rebuild the original 40433 fuel pump, and one of his local friends rebuilt the headlight motors, clock, and radio. When I got the car from Tim, I elected to dive into the carb, as it was leaking down. Often times on the 4160 series carbs, my experience has been the metering plates need to be snugged after some heat cycles. This is the original smog specific Holley 3814. $$$$$$$ when you can find one....

Nice and dry overnight now

While I was waiting for mechanical parts, I took the opportunity to lay a light buff on the car. The car is an older Bloomington Gold as well as an NCRS Chapter, Regional, and National Top Flight car. I suspect years of car covers, dusters, and wipe downs had left their marks. The jambs all look to be original paint. I was very happy with the result nonetheless.

The next step......well you guys know the drill

The key / lock cylinder were a bit fussy. The assembly line 67 lock cylinder is a unique beast. Different from NOS, different from 66, and detectable in an operations check. So I sent the ignition switch, lock cylinder, and keys down to a mutual friend of Tim and I, Steve Walker. Steve's retirement business is strictly GM keys and locks. Steve is a WEALTH of knowledge and just a great guy. If any of you have a need for keys to be cut, locks to be serviced, or anything related, send me a PM for Steve's contact info. He has a good inventory of original key blanks, and his product cuts the mustard in the strictest of judging scenarios. The problem with this car only proved to be a wore out ignition key.

While the seats were out, a deep cleaning and conditioning were in order. These are lovely original leather seats.
