Tires for the 67 Z
I'm getting closer to buying tires for my 67. I'm doing a light day 2 similar to what the original owner did. At first, I was going to pony-up the $600 a tire for the correct Power Cushions but I'm not crazy about the 'skinny' look. I then thought about the slightly larger Power Cushion for the 67 Corvette, but again I'm under-whelmed with the looks. I still want a redline tire so I started looking at the F70-15 Custom Wide Tread Polyglas. I think that might be a better looking and riding tire. Anyone else out there have any thoughts on tires for the Z?
The picture below from 67 looks like he may have already put on wider tires than stock. Thanks Paul Last edited by juliosz; 07-26-2023 at 11:12 PM. |

I struggle the same way with decisions like this. My take? If you are going full resto, get the correct tire.
If you want the day 2 look, go big or stay home. Not so big that you can't drive it without the tires rubbing. Go with the biggest tire in back that will not rub (that means getting the correct offset wheels. Best of both worlds? If you have room, get both. I have my original rally wheels with correct looking Goodyears and a set of Centerlines (could be American Racing, Cragar, etc. here) with 255 60 15 out back and 215 70 15 up front. The front tires are just barely taller than the original E 70 15. Of course, mine is a 69, so it didn't come with the same tires as your 67.

Paul,
On my 67 Z I went with the 67 Corvette tires because the 7.35 weren't available back then. However, I still wouldn't use them because too damn skinny. The 7.75 are a little bit wider and look much better.
