Default What kind of Tires came on the 1969 Yenko Nova

Hi guys, What kind of Tires came on the 1969 Yenko Nova. I see a lot of Firestone Wide Oval but I thought that was a 70's deal with the Deuces. I also see they came with white/red lines as well. Would The Goodyear Poly-glass be more correct? any thoughts? I like the look of the wide oval on that car but if its not correct for 69 then id shy away.

Any thought or info would be great.

Thanks

It would be the same tire and wheel that came on a 69 L78 Nova, unless the customer ponied up for mag wheels.

I believe some were outfitted with the same fifteen inch mags as the COPO Camaros; but again, only if the dealer put them on. There wasn't a COPO option for the Nova in 69, so the dealer installed the 427, and if the customer wanted, and paid, tires and wheels. It would have been more expensive to put 15 inch wheels on the Novas. The Camaro could be ordered with the Sport Car conversion, giving it 15 inch wheels & tires. So the dealer only had to dismount those tires, and put them on the mags. With the Nova, the customer would have had to pay for wheels and tires. I have no idea if anyone kept figures on how many of the 427 converted Nova's got 15 inch wheels and tires.

There was more than one tire supplier in 69.

If you want Goodyear don't do Polyglas, do Goodyear Wide tread.

OEM tire in 1969 for the Nova SS would be E70-14 redline wide ovals....whiteline was optional. 14 x 7 XT steel wheels std. [rallys and SS magnum optional.]

Would the E70-14 Raised white letters wide ovals been an OEM tire in 1969?

Not in 69, but by 72 they used them.

Charlie is right, the Speedway Wide Tread was the tire of choice for Chevy until approximately April of '69. Chevy was the last one to convert over to Polyglas. Kelsey has searched for memo from Goodyear to Chevy or vice versa, but nothing to substantiate the exact time. Our timeline is from original car owners.

As for Goodyear or Firestone, I know a lot of assembly plants were using multiple tire companies to fill out the builds. To my knowledge, both were available for the '69 Nova.

Contact me if you have any questions.
