Hi Rich,
I'm assuming from the dates on the box these are later blue filters that were re-screened to look like pre 72 filters? Do they have any embossing on the bottom?
Thanks, Chris

Not to my knowledge, Chris. I have had these laying around for many years and assumed (I know how that word gets abused) they were NOS. Did all of the old oil filters have embossing on the bottom? These certainly do not.

Do you know when they started producing the blue (tall) filters? I know the current blue ones are now shorter.
I also recall that Paragon was reproducing them...and they were identified by the painted lip. In fact, I have one here and there is still blue paint on the underside of the lip.

Also would like to know if there are any identifiable stampings on the mounting surface...near the 5 holes.

If these are not the 'real deal', I will pull them from this forum. I was offering them in good faith...I may just need an education about the NOS filters.

Thanx for the heads up and any more information you, or anyone else, might offer.

Hi Rich,
The embossing on the PF25's was only on pre 71 dated filters to my knowledge.

Also to the best of my knowledge, PF25's were blue starting in late 73 or early 74 timeframe?

What you have with the 89 dated boxes look like the re-screened filters that were being done in the 90's and through the early 2000's by a few sources for restoration parts.
I know a guy in CA that supplies restoration parts that made quite a few runs of these back then. They are actual AC Delco parts so they are high quality pieces just not from the 70's which isn't necessarily a bad thing as I'd feel more comfortable using these on a car that's being driven as the filter elements aren't 40+ years old.

I don't have any of these re-screened filters left in stock to compare the underside for you unfortunately.
I do have a case of 72 dated filters in stock but I don't see any markings there to help identify them. My 70 embossed filters are stamped AC on the bottom near one of the 5 outer flow holes.
The thing to me that makes me think with pretty good certainty what your filters are, besides the box, is the finish on them. The original white finish was fairly glossy and the screening was no where near as perfect as the ones that my contact in CA was supplying along with his having mat white finish on the filter itself and near perfect printing.
Maybe somebody else can help us out with more or better info.
Chris

Hey Chris,
Thanx for the insight as to what I have here. In comparing what I am sure is a re-screened blue filter to an actual blue filter, there is a letter 'G' stamped beside one of the 5 holes on the mounting surface of the filter. Also, looking inside, the filter baffles all appear to be the same.

With this knowledge, I will no longer be asking NOS money for these two filters...as they are not NOS.
If anyone is interested in them as a new, correct appearing filter, albeit not as glossy white as NOS, they will be $30 each...plus shipping.

Thanx for your insight, Chris.

I believe, from fairly early model year 1969 thru probably mid model year 1970, they looked like the one on the left. After that, until model year ????, they looked like the one on the right.
