As you noticed on my Facebook page Bruce it was the exact opposite. There is one small village half way between me and the city so I was downshifting to slow down coming home from Cruise Night. DUH – shifter goes berserk! Stuck in second gear at about 25 mph for the last five miles of highway was not appreciated by my fellow travellers that night. Checked it out the next morning and obviously the pin broke and the rod in question popped out. It ended up being jammed tight in the shifter mechanism. I think it got bent a bit as we could not get second gear to engage fully as the rod movement was being hindered by rubbing against an extruding part of the tranny.
