I need to know if smog equipment was required in all states for a 69 L78 Nova with an automatic transmission? My Nova was sold new in New York. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave L. SoCal |

I would think so Dave. It was required on the Chevelle and I believe on the Camaro too with that combo.

All big block Nova and Camaros had smog. The only Chevelle exception was the L35 (396-325)with turbo 400, which did not get smog pump. I forget the reasoning for this. Also Full size chevy with L35 turbo 400 did not get smog.
All standard shift small blocks and and L6's received smog and automatics did not.

I believe in 1969 they did, so I would think they did in 70. Good question....
