Default 200K for a 2009 ZR1?

My local Chevy dealer will guarantee me a new ZR1 don't even have to go on a waiting list or anything. He just wants 100K over MSRP. Said it with a straight face too. So there you go a 200K new Vette just waiting for a new owner.

I guess the guy hasn't heard you can buy a naturally aspirated 2008 Viper with 600 HP for 85K or less or a 725 HP Shelby Supersnake for 75K?

it is exactly that kind of mercenary attitude that hurts all dealers, even those that wouldn't play that way.

still for the right money i think i would rather have the vette

Les, I think your local Dealer is a complete as*****. I would tell him too. That is flat out trying to rip someone off and being nothing but greedy. He should be ashamed of himself.

Tony,
About six months after the current generation Z06 came out I was talking to a salesman at Rinke Chevrolet and he told me he got a call from a guy in Florida inquiring about a black Z06 they had in stock. He told the guy up front he needed to get sticker for the car. The guy flew in the next day and picked it up. About a week later, the saleman got a call from the Chevy Zone office and they directed him to EBay where the car just sold for almost a $20K profit. I'm usually not on the dealers side but even the "honest" dealers in these situations consider hammering customers because if they don't somebody else will.

What's the big deal on that one? The dealer quoted a price, got it, made their profit, and went on with their day. If the buyer managed to resell and net another $20K, that's free enterprise.

You would think that people would learn from their mistakes, case in point, 78 pace car, 90 ZR1 both sold for double sticker price when new only to see prices drop like a rock after a couple of years. I guess if you must have the first one, but I could not justify it JMHO.

I can't see anyone falling for this nonsense right now everyone saw the disaster for paying over MSRP for the 90 ZR1 and previous pace cars plus market is in the dumper. Some Viper dealers tried to get over MSRP for the new 600HP 08s only to see that totally fail and they are all selling well under MSRP.

Corvette is GM's profit maker. If THEY think its worth 100K (and have a profit margin there) why would someone buy one for 200K. Just wait and this nonsense will subside.
