Peter,
------If this engine is destined to nestle into a 66 Corvette you should not consider a 351 block.942s actually slipped into early 1967 Vettes, not the other way around!Hope this helps, and I will keep an eye out for you..........Bill S |

Hi Bill,
Many thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, do you mean the 351 # is Okay, and the 942s could, or did slip into `67? Everything I need is not going into a 100% restoration of a `66 Vette, it's for a race car. We are building an Appendix `K` FIA circuit race car, to compete in classic road racing events around Europe. To comply with the strict regulations all the engine components must be date coded to the build date of the car. In this case the car was built Mid Sept `65, but we want to run a 427ci so I assume the cast date needs to be early `65? Is this correct. Confusing I know! Again, thanks for your reply, Peter. |

Peter,
-----If the rules are fast and hard the only block you can use in this instance is a 942.962 blocks were used exclusively in 65 and were 396 blocks.I would have to double check in Noland Adams book but I dont think any 962 blocks came in 66 Corvettes. In any event a 962 block would be way more difficult to find anyway. -----Just looked in the book and Noland is saying that some very early 66s had a block with 961 as the last three casting digits.I personally have never seen a 961 block so would think a search for one of them would be fruitless. -----I also called one the block suppliers in the local area and he is just too high priced to even give you his phone number.Stupid money! He must have overpaid!Hope this helps..........Bill S |

Pete,
I don't know if you've tried either of these guys (one of them might be who Bill was talking about): Tracy Performance Cranes Corvette You could also try Al Fierke at Chicago Corvette Supply(708) 458-2500.

-----Be pretty careful with Cranes.David is OK but there have been times when his representation of parts has been questioned.
-----Dont think Al at Chicago Corvette will be able to help you,but you never know.Ask for Bob Sindelar when you call there as he will be the most helpful. -----As far as the 961s go,I didnt know that.I should have stated that I have never seen a 961 in a 1966 Corvette, and I have looked at,literally, hundreds. And over the years I never really looked at any low horsepower passenger cars casting numbers. -----Possibly,Peter could get a cheap 961 block for his purposes(racing)and just massage the 1 into a 2,and make it into a 4 bolt main. That way a good 962 block that might be needed for a correct high-point restoration wouldnt get used up and Peter wouldnt use up alot of money on a bare block he just as easily could spend putting more horsepower into it.I doubt the number checkers in Europe would check as carefully as NCRS or B.G.Hope this helps..........Bill S -----By the way, almost forgot about the heads.Any of the above mentioned would be good choices for your search for heads as well!!!!!!!! |
