Default Non members posting items F/S

I'm sure this has been discussed, but why not limit "for sale" posts to members only?

It has, but never seems to get past the discussion phase. Personally, I think it's a good idea.

Yes it's a great idea. Becoming a 5 star member and you shall receive the benefits.

Makes sense in theory but haven't some important cars and parts become known/found here simply because it's simple for a non member to post them for sale without joining up?.

Well said Pete and I couldn't agree more with you. If you shut the door on someone that stumbles across this site with some cool stuff that has been hidden away for years and you tell them they have to donate $25.00 to sell they will go somewhere else. Just because you donate money to get stars doesn't give you the right to ban others that give in other ways such as knowledge, photos, history, etc. I feel this is worth a lot more then the small donation that you give out of charity. So lets just all sit back, relax, and have a good time. Mark

And what about the other side of the coin where people post hundreds of ads and donate nothing? Or, the people that post ads and yank everyone's chain by selling nothing?

Most other car sites only allow paid members to post for sale ads...or they don't allow them at all!

Food for thought as well...

How 'bout limiting it to something like maybe 3-5 freebie ads before you gotta' join up?.

Keeps the one time guys still able to post yet cuts out the takers and repetitive ad time waster guys while still giving a genuine seller a taste of success before he has to buck up?.

Now about those other member privileges...like increased PM's?
And are email addresses hidden from non members?.

I'm with Pete - A max of one or two posts in the Classified section at any given time per non-member. If they want to post more, they have the option of either deleting a post or paying up. That will allow a non-member with a rare car to post it here and limit the flippers looking for free advertising.
