Default VIN swapped stolen Mustang ID'd after 38 years

Lady about to lose her 65 Mustang she got as a high school graduation present in 1970. Just found out the VIN tags were swapped when it was stolen in the late 60's.

Thats rediculous. She should be able to keep that car. Screw the guy that had it stolen in 1967 or whatever it was.

wow, i can see both sides to this discussion. reminds me of walking through the junkyard a few years back and seeing a SC/Hornet sitting their minus a VIN and doortag. you know someones driving around in a freshly restored SC/Clonet.

I can see both sides also but listen to the Lady! She says She was going to sell it to a guy and he was going to restore it for his grandaughter! Then She says how heart broken she is going to be and how She is going to cry if She has to turn loose of the car!Sounds like She is only going to cry if she don't get any money for the car! I say it should go back to the ORIGINAL OWNER STOLEN FROM!Then the theft seems suspicious because the car was bought from a storage company! How did the car wound up in storage! Was it abandoned, towed,or really stolen!I think there is more to this than we are hearing about!

She didn't steal the car, she only enjoyed it. She bought the car not knowing that it was stolen. It was bought and paid for with a receipt! Isn't there a statute of limitatons for something like this? I know that if I owned the Mustang in question, it would get hit hard in the left front and the shock tower would get replaced.

I there something missing here? What about the seller.

Bill of sale and I'm sure the VIN was on there somewhere.
Should be able to go after the seller, or family member
of the seller, I would think - in an attempt to get to
the bottom of this. However, after 38 years, they're
probably all gone.

It a crappy situation no matter what way you look at it.

Nuch
