Default 68 RAII Firebird Racer Wells Pontiac, Richmond IN

Talked to a guy who owns a documented '68 RAII Firebird that was sold new at Wells Pontiac (same dealership that sold my 70 RAIV GTO) in June 1968. Car was optioned for racing - heater and radio delete, carpet w/o pad, and also had special paint (a red that the owner has been unable to match).

Car was raced in 1968 at Columbus and the U.S. Nationals, setting a national record at some point. It was sponsored by Wells Pontiac and owned by the Frame brothers; "Wells Pontiac" and "Frame Brothers" was lettered on the car.

Owner is restoring the car, which currently has 1,700 miles. He's looking for original pictures of the car as well as parts - crank pulley, water pump pulley, heads, exhaust manifolds, carb, etc.

If you have pics, parts or info, please PM me.

Thanks,

Scott

No problem. Some more details - Owner says that the car also came without seam sealer, spare, jack, etc, and had some weird traction bars; he thought that they might have been added at the factory.

So is he "restoring" it back to its racing heritage?

Or is he restoring it the way it was delivered?

Appears that he will be restoring back to racing configuration.

Scott, sure would be cool to see the PHS docs. on this car to see if there's any notes on the billing history.

Sounds like a killer car...

Mike - owner said Jim Mattison spoke with him about the car; Jim knew it wasn't a run of the mill roundport 'Bird. I agree - awesome car.
