Are the date codes on these heads that were on Ebay really 1968? They do not look like other date codes I have seen on early 074 heads.
Ebay "1968" dated 074 heads Jason ![]() |

other than the black marker...they seem to look like real dates compared to this head which is dated one day apart...what are they supposed to look like??

I thought they are smaller charaters and include the "6" in "68", just like an winter's intake manifold from those years. I know the 69s used larger numberals and included the 6 in "69"

[/ QUOTE ] This is a pic of a date code from an "074" head. I thought all the early aluminum GM heads were date coded a similar style? ![]() ![]() |

Chevrolet did not necesarily use the same font/numerical styles for casting dates on the same exact type part depending on the date the part was cast(boy was that a mouthful!!)...... for example these are 2 pics of original x-ram intake top plate casting dates which are only one day apart and still very different...
those heads on ebay are almost a year earlier than the others... Not that that proves anything on the head dates...I'm no expert, but just showing real pics of real parts for comparison... |

Per your picture inquiry. Type [image] or [IMG] (either one will work)..in front of it,and [/image] or [/IMG] at the end of your attachment code below. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/319571-DSC00497.JPG It comes out like this. |

I see what you are saying but the dates on the heads look nothing like either of those dates. A one digit year code on a winter's part is much later in my opinion. I imagine the date is 1978.
