I am told this is a hotly debated issue on this forum and in speaking last night with the original owner of my Yenko Camaro he says his car was delivered from the dealership in June of 1969 with F 70 15 Goodyear polyglass tires. He said his car came from Yenko(and presumably the factory) with Firestones but that he didn't want the Firestones so prior to taking delivery of his car he watched as the dealer took the Goodyear polyglass tires off another Yenko and put them on his car. Soon thereafter he removed them to put some wider tires on his car and put the Goodyears away. We have a bill of lading showing five Yenko's were delivered to his dealership. These are his recollections and he thinks he may have some day one pictures somewhere to shed some light on this. I for one have absolutely no idea so please don't shoot the messenger.

Wasn't there a thread a long time ago about deciphering date codes on tires? Can anybody tell me how to figure out the date codes? I remember it was different than reading casting date codes on blocks etc.

I know from my Mustangs going to various shows that no size goodyear polyglass tires were issued in 1969 but sometime in 1969 and I will find out later today exactly when the sized Goodyear polyglass tires were going out on late 1969 Mustangs.

Dave and I are trying to figure out the great tire mystery that goes along with this car as we speak. All the owners say the originals stayed with the car. When Jim Hughes got the car he removed the original wheels and tires which are old polyglass sized Goodyears thinking they were old tires but not original to the car and set them aside and installed repop wheels and tires so he could drive and enjoy the car. Jim never spoke to the original owner to learn the no size factory original Firestones were swapped at the dealer with sized goodyear polyglass tires and were original to the car when it left the dealership. I learned this morning that when Dave bought the car the car had the repop wheels and tires on it with the originals put into the trailer to go to Charley's then to Dave's. Dave upon receiving the car removed the repop tires that Jim put on and put on new correct original repop no size tires. I have emails into Dave and Charley asking if Dave ever got the original wheels and tires because they both may not have been told by Jim or the truck driver that the extras were the originals? Anyway Dave has a set of old originals in his warehouse but believes them to be built long after 1969. Dave knows his stuff so he is surely correct the question is whether Dave knows the wheels and tires in the trailer were the ones on the car when Jim Hughes bought it from Jerry B? So if we can locate the tires put into the trailer up at Jim's and sent to Charley's we can get some numbers to see if they possibly could have been the originals installed back at the dealership in June 1969.

Correction, the tires that the original owner left the dealership on in June of 1969 say "Goodyear wide tread GT" and have NO size on them so they would be correct for the car in 1969 at least according to the Mustang guys.
