Got some bad news this morning from a friend back in IL.....another mutual friend, Ted, was on the way home yesterday from a car show in Elburn, IL with his 55 Chevy. He was stopped waiting to make a left turn and was rear-ended by a young girl doing about 50 mph. There were no skid marks, so obviously she never braked Don't have all the details yet but it appears from the picture that the cars caught on fire after the accident. Ted is in the hospital with back injuries. When he was rear-ended, it pushed him into another car from the show that was stopped in front of him.

Hope your friend is okay. It may be tough to hear about the car, but metal can be repaired, flesh is a little tougher. Hope the driver of the car that caused the accident learned that eyes are meant to stay on the road.

Reflex assumption is another 'texting/cell phone' incident, ... but I guess at this point it doesn't really matter. People injured; nice cars damaged or ruined, ....... and all for the lack of common sense & responsibility!
Full cage in the '55? Maybe a good thing!

I'm thinking the same on the cage. Good thing he was able to get out before it went up. Good job on the foam use on the car fire.

WOW! I bet he was glad he had a cage in it! That really helped! Hope for the best recovery.

hope your friend is ok! back injuries are not good. that was a great looking 55. i would love to see a before pic of the car. it would really drive home what kind of damage is caused by poor driving skills.

I would bet my last buck she was texting.
I spend a lot of time on the freeways between LA and San Diego. It's scary as hell to look around you at the drivers you are sharing the road with. Half are looking down, texting. The other half are yammering away with the phone to their ear with only a half a clue what's going on around them. This is at 70 MPH. People could care less both are ticketable offenses, and I never hear of the CHP enforcing the law anyway. People get killed all the time, drivers guily of being the cause have their lives ruined, and still it goes on and on. If I get an incoming call I know is important, it's "I'm behind the wheel, call you back when I can." If it's really important, I pull over or exit. |
